would anyone have ever even heard of Just Plain Tom Becket, had D. not
effectively interceded with Henry to help him gain his Martyr's Crown ??
i think not.
the fact that the whole affaire might not have turned out exactly the way Tom
wanted it to is not really relevant, in the larger scope of Things
Hagiographical ; and D. might have gotten a Silver Star or two for seeing to
it that events came out All Right in the End.
which is, after all, the only place what matters, in this particular (and
quite peculiar) Belief System.
