medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear listmembers,
Regarding material on the Virgin's display of her breast to Christ: in
addition to the work done on this theme from a Welsh-Irish perspective by
Madeleine Gray and I (in Jonathan Wooding and Karen Jankulak (eds), Ireland
and Wales in the middle ages - forthcoming from Four Courts Press), I have
also completed an article dealing with Irish instances of the phenomenon
and exploring its evolution in Europe in some detail - the reference for
this article is Salvador Ryan, ‘The persuasive power of a mother’s breast:
the most desperate act of the Virgin Mary’s Advocacy' in Studia Hibernica
xxxii (2004-5), due out before the end of the year. It may be of interest
to some of you.
Regards,
Salvador Ryan
