Working successfully with the media has many rewards and benefits for you and your organisation, but there are also pitfalls to be avoided and strategies to implement in times of crisis.
This one day workshop looks at a range of different types of media, how to manage relationships with the media, how to implement and write good press releases and how to manage in a crisis.

WORKSHOP LEADER: Chris Wells
Chris lectures on a range of topics including copywriting, editing newsletters, producing effective literature and preparing fundraising strategies and sponsorship proposals. He has worked extensively within the voluntary, public and commercial sectors.

A quick review of all those areas that you may wish to approach: printed, broadcast, local, regional, national etc Where you find information about them, and how to best use that research.

11.15 Session 2: Managing relationships with the media
Understanding how a story goes from your desk to the page or the airwaves.
Who, and how to encourage the right type of relationships
12.30 Lunch
1.30 Session 3: Writing a Media Release
Press releases are much maligned, often misused, and far to commonly the only step in the chain of approach. Used sparingly, and well, it remains the most effective way to attract attention.

3.15 Session 4: Managing in a Crisis
The worst nightmare, when we attract serious media attention for all the
wrong reasons. Simple procedures for dealing with the avalanche of
attention which surely follows something going wrong.
