By the end of the course participants should be able to: list the major
sources of routine data that are used in epidemiology and health services
research; access these sources or routine data; identify research questions
that can be answered using routinely available data
'Sources of Routinely Collected Data' will be of interest to researchers,
public health practitioners and health service planners
The course is largely concerned with highlighting sources of routine data
that are potentially of use in health research and explaining how these
data sources can be accessed. Some aspects of data quality will be
discussed and examples of uses of routine data will be presented. The focus
will be largely on British routine data sources, though some information
concerning WHO data sources will be presented.
The course will cover access and content of the following sources of data:
· Census
· Mortality data
· Hospital activity data
· GP morbidity data
· Cancer registry data
