Dear Zooarchs:
The organizers of the II Symposium Early humans in the Americas forward me a copy of the last circular. The dead line for abstract submissions to the event is Jun 30.
As far I know, one topic of the event will be the paleoenvironment, extinctions, and relatives.
If you are interested, in the last paragraph you´ll find the e-mail of the organizers.
Cheers
Eduardo

2nd INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
EARLY HUMANS IN THE AMERICAS
2nd CIRCULAR
The Physical Anthropology Direction of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), through the Organizing Committee, presents this convocation in order to host the “2nd Symposium of Early Humans in the Americas” from the 6th to the 10th of September, 2004.
Objectives
1. The symposium aspires to reunite researchers from different countries and disciplines who have intellectual interest in the early presence of humans in the Americas.
2. This academic event responds to the intellectual pursuit of national and international researchers to share their knowledge of recent studies of early population of the Americas with the academic community.
3. With the information presented, a forum will be created for discussion of the various positions on migration, affinities and the antiquity of humans in the Americas.
4. A proposal will be defined to design a methodology specific to dating techniques and to unite the criteria of morphological studies of the cranial and postcranial human skeleton. Included is the aim of forming a databank for the entire American continent and through this enable us to compare information with data from other regions of the world.
5. The general aim is to narrow the frank and open academic dialogue of the prehistory of the Americas.
The organizing committee proposes the following themes:
Ø New dates for the antiquity of humans in the Americas.
Ø Possible migration routes to the American continent and within the continent.
Ø Environmental conditions during the late Pleistocene/early Holocene in the Americas including paleoclimate, geology, flora and fauna, etc.
Ø Genetic and morphological characteristics and affinities of early populations in the Americas
The organizers of the symposium extend a cordial invitation to participate in this event, which will be held at the Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City from the 6th to the 10th of September, 2004.
