A few quotes from the Guardian article
"The system will look very poor when compared with Blackboard or Nathan Boddington"
"if, as turned out to be the case, that Sun could not deliver a fully functioning platform in time."
"Sun Microsystems declined to comment ahead of next week's board meeting, which will also discuss the sale of the platform it developed."
So if the article is to be taken as Gospel (perhaps there is another side, to which we should keep an open mind) then not only was it very expensive but also incomplete, so even if we could have it freely available, which it would appear we can't, it would still not provide a complete solution.

Without wishing to turn this list into a gossip mill, has anyone any ideas what will become of the platform that all this money was spent on? Surely a myriad of educational contexts could be considered. After all, it will effectively be an 'off the shelf solution'.....

An interesting article in today's education guardian about the closing down of the e-university - not least the comment that part of its failure was due to its decision to develop its own learning platform, rather than get an off the shelf one. I'm sure there were other reasons too, possibly to do
with marketing, but maybe this particular one is a lesson for us all!
The whole project was £62 million. Anybody know how much of that was spent
on the learning platform?
