One interesting aspect of Induction here at the Open University - a vast
organisation - is that the talks/presentations given by various key
departments or individuals are open to staff who are not that new.
People do change their jobs and if you now need to know something about
the work of the Student Statistics Team (although you never did before!)
you can come along to that show. I've had staff who have been at the OU
for six years attend sessions on course production.
So again no examples, but a suggestion that staff induction resources
should be developed in a form which makes them accessible on a
need-to-know basis not only for new staff but also for those who have
had some change in their roles, or the focus of their work.
I realise BTW that this response is not very timely. I hope that its
still of some use.

I haven't an example to offer but my suggestion, equally for students as
for staff, would be to focus on 'orientation' rather than 'induction'.
Too often the experience is of a series of 'talking heads' rather than
the individual being able to locate themselves within the culture and
processes of the institution and the role(s) they are expected to play.
A series of activities which help the individual orientate themselves
will have far more meaning than subjecting them to information overload.
Perhaps not helpful - but certainly with feeling!

Subject: Staff Induction
Dear Colleagues
The University of Plymouth is looking at reviewing its University and
Faculty/Departmental induction programmes. Does anyone have any
suggestions for how to approach this in a fresh and meaningful way?
I wondered whether HESDA members might be able to help by sending copies
of their guidelines/programmes.
Any help at all would be gratefully received!
Kind regards
