Dean, COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL USA
The University of Florida invites applications and nominations for the
position of Dean of the College of Fine Arts. The University
(www.ufl.edu) is a comprehensive, land-grant, graduate research
institution with over 49,000 students and membership in AAU. The
College offers accredited BA, BFA, and BM baccalaureate degrees; the
MA, MFA and MM degrees at the master's level; and Ph.D. degree
programs. The College of Fine Arts is composed of the School of Art
and Art History, School of Music, School of Theatre and Dance, Center
for the Arts and Public Policy, Center for World Arts, Center for the
Arts in Healthcare Research and Education, University Galleries, Visual
Resources Center, University of Florida Performing Arts (Curtis M.
Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Baughman Center, and
University Auditorium), Digital Worlds Institute and the college
program of the New World School of the Arts in Miami. The College has
approximately 1,200 majors and 100 faculty members.
As the College's chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean
reports directly to the University Provost. The position requires an
innovative, and imaginative leader who is strongly committed to the
teaching/learning process and to the highest standards of scholarly and
artistic achievement; who has demonstrated a genuine concern for the
welfare of students, faculty, and staff, and shares the University's
strong institutional commitment to the achievement of diversity.
The Dean sets the vision for the College within the University's
strategic plan, establishes new opportunities for the College, and
directs its growth and development through shared governance. The
Dean participates in campus-wide planning and is responsible for the
College's teaching quality, maintaining accreditation, budget
management, development and allocation of resources, the administration
of academic and research programs, alumni relations, providing
leadership in fundraising to augment state appropriations, and
extending the college's outreach locally, in the state, in the nation,
and abroad. The position is a 12-month appointment. The position will
be available July 1, 2005. The salary is competitive and commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
▪ Earned terminal degree in one of the College's disciplines from an
accredited institution.
▪ Outstanding record of teaching, research or creative activity, and
service appropriate to appointment to the rank of tenured full
professor in one of the schools of the College.
▪ Demonstrated successful academic administrative experience,
including budget and personnel management, and evidence that the
applicant will provide effective representation of the college on the
UF campus, and to the state, national and international communities.
▪ Experience with strategic planning and program development.
▪ Demonstrated effective organizational, interpersonal, and
communication skills.
▪ Experience, demonstrated skills, and a strong desire to lead a
broad and intensive fundraising effort, and a record of increasing
community support for arts and academic programs.

until the position is filled.
