Dear Jean:
How can you tell if Hans is not, in fact, pretending to be Sokal?
Ben suggested that everyone should sign the posts with their institutional
address. Most of this institutional addresses are available on-line and any
search on the List archives will provide dozens of those addresses.
I must confess to the list that I am both Cindy and Ken since I share some
of their opinions on Heidegger. And more, if you remember my post: "who do
you want to be: Heidegger or Hanna Arendt?"
As for your hint about the use of philosophy, anticipating the thread:
Would philosophy be of any use if there were any kind of restrictions to
its use?
We could start with some simple restrictions: Football managers, in
Portugal, often refers to their attack strategy as a "Positivist
Philosophy". Although that statement will never harm Positivism itself we
should limit the use of philosophy for football managers.
From there we could go to politicians, women in the market, and, obviously,
Monty Python sketches. In fact we could arrive to restrictions on
philosophers since, some times, their discourse lacks of philosophical
rigour.
In fact, thinking about it, philosophical discourse should be specially
prohibited to philosophers because they are continuously generating
forbidden discourse (if you establish restrictions to the use of
philosophy).
In fact we even could think of a Philosophy Security Council where Hans
could provide reports on the evidence (or lack of evidence) of mass
philosophical destruction weapons stored in Design Schools or elsewhere.
