Thanks to all for the very useful information I received in response to
my query about international CS rates - it seems that a lot of people
are trying to find the answer to this question. I have summarised the
data I needed (rounded up to whole figures) as far as it was available
on the table above, and copied and pasted some of your sources and
comments below, so others can follow this up. I am still awaiting data
from Japan, which I will post to the list once it arrives.

Italy/Europe (see also OECD countries, below)
Alberta Bacci reported that the officially reported data for the
European countries is on the WHO
Regional Office for Europe website (Health for All database):
http://www.euro.who.int/
You can also find information about Making Pregnancy Safer activities
in
this region at this address: http://www.euro.who.int/pregnancy.
However, I couldn't find the CS rates for either Italy or the UK on
this - maybe I was using it wrongly! Can Alberta or anyone else advise
on this?

website www.moh.govt.nz then go to publications then publication by
year. In 2001. 2003 and 2004 a "Report on Maternity" was published by
our
Ministry of Health. These cover years 1999 - 2002 for all outcomes,
both by
facility, by region etc. And a number of other sets of data. However,
do
read the 'warning' at the beginning of each report about the level of
(un)
reliability of some of the data!
OECD countries
OECD health data (http://www.oecd.org/home): but NB, the UK data on
this site are wildly wrong, at least since 1994. The NZ, Dutch and US
data cross-check with other sites, so it may just be an error for the
UK, but be warned
