Trainee Archivist

For nearly 20 years this post has provided training to enable history
graduates to apply for a postgraduate archive and records management course.
Training covers the whole range of archival responsibilities. Trainees help
to run the busy public searchrooms, working with first time enquirers and
experienced academics, they learn archive arrangement and listing, including
computerised cataloguing on the CALM system, and play a full part in the
strong-rooms, locating and retrieving documents for use by the public and
the reprographics service. In addition, trainees will experience the
establishment of the University’s new records management programme.
Applicants should have excellent communication and organisational skills,
the ability to fit into a small team and be committed to applying to a
postgraduate archive course. You should also have, or expect to gain, a 2:1
or above in history or a related discipline.
Salary will be £11,612 per annum. The post is available for 12 months from
1 September 2004.
