I agree entirely with this. The majority of our 'clashes' now are caused
by units being timetabled at the same time. Sorting these out for hundreds
of students doing unit 1, 2, 3, or 1 and 3, or 2 and 3 , or just 3 etc.
etc. is mind -blowing to say the least, as well as being totally
timeconsuming. I mentioned this at a recent QCQ Panel meeting and really
felt that the size of this problem had not been fully
understood. Obviously we will always have the genuine clashes between
subjects, but these timetabled unit clashes are difficult to control.
Also, we have a 15 minute turnaround between unit papers. Students do not
leave the exam room unless a toilet break is required. Invigilators have
their work cut out collecting and distributing papers, with, as you say,
many different subjects quite often in the same. With the old 3 hour A
level papers, students and invigilators had to stay put, so the same should
go for unit papers I feel.
