medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
For once, I have details! ;-)
Portugal isn't a problem:
See De expugnatione Lyxbonensi, an account of the taking of Lisbon in 1147 by crusaders more or less on their way to the holy land... this is pretty much the origins of the independant kingdom of Portugal, as I understand it. If I recall correctly, the Templars were central to the operatin.

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (18. October) is the feast day of:
Henry of Bonn (blessed) (d. 1147) Henry was a German noble. He set out on the second crusade, but along the way (? I'm finding this hard to imagine
from a map) he stopped to help the Portuguese conquer Lisbon, was killed in the fighting, and won veneration as a martyr.
