medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The entry for the Saints of the Day on 15th August reminded us that this was
the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady.
Can anyone tell me what, or how I wd find out what, a collegiate church
would have done about this very important feast in the late C15? Would the
degree of ceremony involved have depended on the dedication of the church?
(St Matthew in this instance, though there was naturally an altar of Our
Lady in the Lady-chapel.) How many days wd it have occupied? Would the
builders still working on the roof have been given time off, and if so how
much?
I'd be grateful for any input.
