medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Almshouses are often (also) called hospitals (and leper houses
or lepers hospitals), hospices, almonries, God's Houses, and
infirmaries, so don't neglect those as possible subject headings
in your searches. _Medieval Religious Houses: England and
Wales_ by David Knowles and R. Neville Hadcock (rev. ed.,
Longman, 1971) has a hundred pages of listings/descriptions
under "Hospitals," at pp. 310-410, with (some) details about
finances, number of residents, brethren/sisters, etc. and for
individual establishments some citations to other works that may
be useful.
