medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Calling for Submissions for two sessions on
Minnesang and Mystik at the 39th International Congress on Medieval
Studies May 6-9, 2004 in Kalamazoo Michigan
Minnesang and Mystik
I. Wip und Gral: Studies of Middle High German Romance and Epic
II. Karitas Abundat in Omnia: Studies of Medieval German Mysticism
The sessions will explore the relationship between allegedly
"secular" texts and their so-called "relgious" counterparts. Papers
treating intersections and divergence are most welcome. A wide range of
topics are welcome. Treatments might include correspondences or
discrepancies between Minnesang and Mystik regarding gender,
love and the role of the author. Papers discussing the relationship
between biblical and exegetical hermeneutics and the development of
novelistic discourse in the romances or symbolic discourse in lyric and
epic are particularly welcome.
Please send abstracts to me per email A.S.A.P. Papers from these sessions
will be considered for a possible edited volume on the subject.
Let me know which session you would like to present in. Session languages
are English and German.
