medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
> Godeleva (d. 1070) Godeleva (Godliva) was born near Boulogne in 1040.
She

> finally had her strangled.
But according to Drogo of Sint-Winoksbergen she tried to get away from this
life, actually she escaped to her father's land. But she was forced to get
back -although Drogo says that her husband Berholf was forced to take her
back- and then she was killed.
Part of G's claim to sanctity is that her
> widower later regretted his act, doing penance, going on crusade, and
> becoming a monk---converting his castle into a convent.
I had no idea about this, could you please tell me the source/s for it,
Phyllis? I have been interested in Godelieve for some time now and I find
her life fascinating.
Best,
Christina
