POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT MARGINS OFFICE, WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY, ST. LOUIS
The MARGINS Office will be transferring to Washington University in St.
Louis from October 2003 through September 2006 with Julie Morris serving as
Chair of the MARGINS Steering Committee and Office. The MARGINS program is a
scientific initiative designed by the scientific community and funded by the
National Science Foundation. The purpose of the MARGINS Office is to foster
and facilitate integrated interdisciplinary study of continental margins, on
a national and increasingly international level. A MARGINS Office
Coordinator and an Administrative Assistant are required to enable the
Office to provide a focal point for the planning, organization,
communication and interaction with the Earth Science community considered
essential to the continued development of a successful MARGINS research
program. These positions will exist for three years.
The *MARGINS Office Coordinator*, a full-time position, will be responsible
for day-to-day operations of the Office, and will act as the scientific
assistant to the Chairman. The position is intended for a postdoctoral
scientist, although candidates with a Masters degree in the geosciences, and
significant experience in the field, would be considered. Operational duties
will include scientific interaction with researchers around the world;
writing, editing and distributing a semiannual MARGINS newsletter, working
group reports, and meeting minutes; developing materials for the MARGINS web
site; overseeing meeting logistics, travel arrangements and on-site support;
and developing education and outreach components for the MARGINS Office.
Expertise in web site and data base design and management, well-developed
interpersonal skills, and excellent writing and organizational skills, are
essential. Travel will be involved with this position from time to time.
Salary level would begin at $35,000 to $40,000 annually, depending on the
qualifications of the candidate.
The *Administrative Assistant*, a full-time position, will be responsible
for web site maintenance, assistance with projects in education and
outreach, document production and word processing, logistical and travel
arrangements for national and international meetings including arranging
reimbursements for participants, office budget management, and office
correspondence including responding to requests for program information.
Experience in web site management, desktop publishing, and a proficiency in
UNIX and Mac operating systems and well-developed organizational skills are
desirable. Familiarity with Earth Sciences would also be an advantage.
Travel may be involved with this position from time to time. Compensation
for this hourly position will be in the range of $25,000 to $30,000
annually, depending on qualifications
