medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

I *think* neither term is appropriate, but "continent"
serves nicely, at least according to the on-line
Catholic Encyclopedia. "Continence" falls under the
"celibacy" rubric; but since "celibate" means
"unmarried" and since everyone, including married
people, is called to be chaste, neither "chaste" nor
"celibate" may be used to describe accurately a
marital union in which sex is not a part.
