Yes indeed, thanks -- I've been working my way through all the
Stafford and Staffordshire web pages I can find!
I can't find the quotes in an online Vulgate either, which leads me
to think they are probably not from the Bible, but perhaps from a
liturgical text or literary source (at which my expertise is nil).
If I can get some really good photos of this font, I'd love to bring
them to the Iconography session at Kalamazoo next year and see what
people make of them. The combination of motifs on the font is just
*weird.*
