Hello,
Co-East is hosting “Bridging the Information Divide: Virtual Reference and New Developments for Ask A Librarian" on 10 June in Cambridge. We would like to extend an invitation to participate in a discussion of this new type of service.
We are excited about this new way to communicate with and help the public, and collaboration has meant that we have the time, at a lower cost and with support from colleagues, to evaluate how we can integrate it with our other services. We look forward to input from others, especially within the public library community.
The programme includes the following:
Building Bridges: Digital Reference Overview
Linda Berube, Co-East
The Virtual Reference Toolkit: an introduction Arthur Brady, LSSI
Ask live! Essex guides a remote user through library and web resources (live demonstration of Toolkit) Helen Moore, Essex Libraries
Ask a Librarian Virtual Reference Toolkit Trial: preliminary findings Joanne John, Co-East
The Future of Ask: issues for consideration Linda Berube, Co-east
Open discussion for Co-east, Ask libraries, Resource, and NHS and other guest libraries
The event is free of charge, and as spaces are limited and a light lunch will be provided, we would appreciate if you would contact Joanne John ([log in to unmask]) as soon as possible to confirm attendance and for details about the event. In the mean time, please feel free to trial the Virtual Reference Toolkit with an Ask library at http://www.ask-a-librarian.org.uk/Patron. The trial has been extended until 30 June, and we are all feeling a bit more confident with the technology!
Look forward to seeing you,
Linda
(apologies if this is received twice by the list,a bit of a problem with sending messages today--did someone say something about confidence with technology?)
