Middlesbrough Libraries uses a single ticket, personal to the borrower and
all readers can access both Mobile and stabile Branches. A browne issue
ticket is kept on the vehicle, with the reader's number written on it. This
is in case the reader should forget it, but most readers also keep their
ticket on the vehicle. This is no slower than it would be in a Branch, and
we deal with entire classes at a time when we visit schools.
From my personal point of view, family tickets cannot support the privacy
of the reader, although I understand that children have few rights in this
regard. Our Branch tickets can link a parental ticket to the child's
ticket, giving the parent access to the child's records, the justification
for which is that the parent is ultimately responsible for the child's
borrowings. A Mobile Library would need to function online to provide this
service.
Our Primary Link service, which takes trollies into Schools and uses
laptops, uses the same software as the Mobile, but the children have an
additional ticket: ie 1 Branch Ticket and 1 Primary Link ticket.
