medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This quotation, from Crisci's _Salerno sacra_, sounds very much like a reference to the church of Sant'Agostino in that city, which *was* preceded by a church of Sant'Angelo "ad Mare". See, e.g.,

It is clear from the passage I cite that the building involved rather an adding on to the previous structures, as it is now apparent to me also from the date included in your citation, viz., 7 June 1276, which refers to the work that was begun when the church was built to replace the chiesa di Sant’Agnedlo ad Mare, etc. There is also a brief reference to a second date of construction being 1309 in the Catholic Encyclopedia.
