There is an equivalent phrase in Latin liturgical texts "decus
regnantium" - meaning actually the "glory of those who reign/rule/govern"
but can be translated "glory of kings". I know it through later
liturgical latin, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if it had earlier
roots.
