There are several moments in E.T.: The
Extra-Terrestrial when the camera offers E.T.'s
subjective point of view and the scene is filmed from
E.T./child height - notably the Trick-or-Treat scene.
I believe some critics have argued that this is not
only to align the viewer (adult or child) with the
alien but also the adult viewer with a 'child''s
perspective - and a nostalgia for/reminiscence of
childhood.
