'Private Faces in Public Places' - A South East A2A project
2 Project Archivists
Fixed Term. 12 months full time, from March 2003
36 hours a week - flexitime
Salary: £17,979 - £20,391
An opportunity for 2 qualified Archivists to work with fascinating, little
known collections in 6 institutions in the South East (the Ashmolean Museum;
Godalming Museum; Royal Holloway, University of London; the Royal Logistics
Corps Museum; the Tolkien Society; and the Watts Gallery).
This project aims to increase public access to, and improve the care of,
these wide ranging collections, creating new catalogues and making them
accessible through the A2A (Access To Archives) web site hosted by the
Public Record Office at www.a2a.pro.gov.uk. The project is supported by the
Heritage Lottery Fund, the South East Museum, Library and Archive Council,
the South East Regional Archive Council and the PRO.
The Project Archivists will be based at Godalming Museum but will also need
to travel to and work at, other sites, arranging and cataloguing the
collections and training staff and volunteers. They will liase with the A2A
team at the PRO and will work together to publicise the new catalogues,
including creating an exhibition at the Surrey History Centre in Woking.
Applicants should have: a relevant professional qualification; knowledge of
the requirements of ISAD(G); enthusiasm for improving and promoting public
access to archives; enthusiasm for sharing your professional skills;
cataloguing experience, including cataloguing archives on computer. You
need to be well organised and self motivated and a good communicator.
