Faunal Remains
Salary: University Scale point 4-6 (£18265-£20,311) pay award pending
A Research Assistant is required to work on the faunal remains from sites in Wales and Scotland. In the first instance the work will focus on the tightly dated material from Llangorse Crannog, Brecon, with subsequent analysis and reporting on the material from the Bronze Age settlement at Cladh Hallan, Western Isles.
The duties of the Research Assistant, who is responsible to Dr Jacqui Mulville, are for all stages of zooarchaeological analysis including evaluation and assessment, recording, data analysis and the production of reports for publication. Candidates should have substantial experience of identifying and recording animal bones and relevant computing experience (preferably in Excel or Access and Word). A proven ability to complete written reports is essential, as is the ability to work independently to a high standard and tight deadlines.
Duties also include the curation and development of the comparative collection. The Research Assistant will be based in the new zooarchaeology laboratory within the School of History and Archaeology, University of Cardiff, Cardiff, Wales.
Applicants should have a relevant degree and experience in faunal analysis.
The post will initially be for 8 months, with the possibility of renewal thereafter.
The closing date for applications is 4pm 26th September 2003. Interviewing will occur in the week beginning 6th October 2003. It is hoped the Research Assistant will be able to start in November 2003 at the latest.
