Dear list,
These amazingly long messages on the subject of race and genetics are not
very thrilling reading - how do the authors find the time to write so much?
- and I can't see the point of the argument. The only use that statistics
about race are put to is to justify being horrible to some group of human
beings that appear to be different from whatever group you belong to. Even
if it is true that there are different 'races, and even if it were true
that people of 'racial type' A were less intelligent, less pretty or had
bigger feet than type B people, that wouldn't be a good reason to be nasty
to them.
I can't see the value in long complicated arguments about genotype and
phenotype to justify what is essentially a political point of view. To use
statistics as a post hoc justification for bigotry seems to me to be a
misuse of science.
Perhaps I've missed the point of it all - if so, please ignore me.
