Make New Friends but Keep the Old - The Parry Concert
Tickets $10
An extraordinary event, at an extraordinary price! For the first time in the USA since Joseph Parry himself offered a concert of his music, a whole evening, of Parry music.
Some familiar, some not heard for many a year
Dr Dulais Rhys, The foremost expert on Parry's music, will be the Master of Ceremonies, and will also play the piano,
In addition we have an outstanding cast of musicians.
Cor Cymraeg Rehoboth.
This renowned Welsh American Choir is a Concert Choir in the tradition of the great performing choirs of the Welsh valleys. The choir sings with joy the music of the faith and culture of Wales and from the rich heritage of classical and modern choral repertoire.
The Celentano String Quartet
Joseph Parry's Quartet for Strings has not been heard in America for 100 years. Repairing this oversight, by playing the second movement, is the Celentano String Quartet. We are honored to have this accomplished group of musicians join us for the evening
Clark Luis, Baritone
Clark Luis is a vocalist with a deserved reputation for excellence. Clark's voice is one well suited to the songs of Parry who was himself a Baritone of note.
Eileen Hanisch. Soprano
To hear her, is to love her! Eileen's sweet soaring voice, is a fine foil to the mellow but commanding tone of Clark Luis.
Having both of these soloists will make for a memorable evening
The Girl Scouts of Danville. Singing their own favorite song, Joseph Parry's "make new Friends but Keep the Old". We are thrilled to have them
And we hope YOU will join in.
Tickets are only $10! Available through the Danville Iron Heritage Office

The life and Music of Joseph Parry
3pm
Admission is Free
In 1898 Parry last visited this church, where as a young man he had been organist. He came to talk about his music, and entertain the crowd with musical selections on the Hook and Hastings organ, acquired for the church by Iron Master Thomas Beaver. Now 105 years later, Dr. Dulais Rhys will offer an entertaining and informative afternoon of music and history. Talking about Parry, his music and his influence on later musical forms.
SUNDAY JULY 20th
1.30 p.m.
Mahoning Presbyterian Church
Joseph Parry Memorial Cymanfa Ganu
Admission is Free
The weekend will conclude, not with a whimper, but with a song. The first Cymanfa to be held in Danville since about 1908. Our conductor will be Trefor Williams of Anglesey. A vibrant and exciting conductor of Cymanfaoedd, who every year leads the folk of Venedocia Ohio in song. Our own lovely Carol Ellis will be supplying the special music. Carol's soprano voice and expert interpretation of Parry's hymns is well known and much acclaimed. We plan for this to be the first of many annual Cymanfaoedd, so come out and lend your voices, and be able to say "I was there you know". The day will end appropriately with tea. After the Cymanfa, you are all invited to the traditional "Te Bach" (refreshments - literally "little tea") arranged for you by the Ladies of the Mahoning Presbyterian Church, and the Susquehanna Valley Welsh Society.

An Appeal:
From the Susquehanna Valley Welsh Society
We have been working hard in the past year. Preparing for a weekend of events commemorating Joseph Parry, that would be memorable. Whilst preparing the musical items for the Parry concert
"Make New Friends but Keep the Old" we realized that something was missing! Parry wrote a lovely violin quartet, and we all felt that the concert would be incomplete, without at least a part of this lovely piece.
So we secured the services of the "Celentano" String Quartet who came highly recommended. Celentano have been generous (as have all of our musicians). But .we need to raise more funds in order to keep the costs of the concert at its incredibly reasonable rate. This is where you come in! We are seeking contributions in order to help defray the costs of the concert.
Contributions of any amount will be welcomed. All contributions no matter how small are needed. All contributions will be acknowledged with the name of your choice printed on the concert program.
Contributions can be sent to:
The Susquehanna Valley Welsh Society

Please print clearly the name you would like placed in the program.
