Apologies for cross-posting
Contributions are requested for a new electronic newsletter for those
interested in application of XML to archaeology and related subjects.
XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a mark-up language developed by the
World Wide Web Consortium that allows developers to create customized tags
that will organize and deliver content more efficiently. The origins of XML
go back to the late 1960s so it is not a new technology, while the first XML
specification appeared in 1998. There has been a growing interest among
archaeologists in XML but a lack of information about what can be done has
prevented many from using XML.
The aim of the newsletter is a collection of very short contributions, to
inform people of what is going on and to provide links to other resources.
Contributions needed include:
a.. Explain your application of XML to archaeology or a related subject.
b.. Brief reviews of books, papers and articles on relevant XML
applications and also books on learning XML very welcome
c.. Pointers to useful websites and other Internet resources for learning
XML.
d.. Notes on the technology – tools for editing and creating XML, browsers
for viewing XML.
e.. Requests for information, advertise resources or projects using XML
f.. Introduce yourself and explain your research or interest in XML
The newsletter will be produced irregularly, hopefully at least every
quarter, more frequently if more material is forthcoming. There is no
geographic restriction if the material is relevant it will be included.
