The films written by American WWI pilot John Monk Saunders in the 20s
and 30s often present ambivalent if not outright critical views of the
war:
WINGS (Wellman)
ACE OF ACES
THE EAGLE AND THE HAWK
DAWN PATROL (2 versions, one directed by Howard Hawks and the other by
Edmund Goulding)
to name a few.
As the original question, though, asked about Americans in WWI, PATHS
OF GLORY is about French soldiers.

Or gas, presumably. Why have we lost interest in WW1? I mean why don't
people
make films about it anymore? I think the only films I have ever seen
about
the Americans in WW1 are the Vidor, Sergeant York and Shoulder Arms.
I'd like to
see more films about what the French did too.
