Cynthia Freeland has a provocative article on the relevence of Cognitive Science to Film Studies in the present edition of Film and Philosophy, which is now available and can be ordered at www.lhup.edu/~dshaw/journal.html
Her thesis is that cognitive studies have a great deal to offer in helping us interpret image meaning in film. Using three extended examples from The Wild Bunch, Freeland draws on conceptual metaphor analysis, perceptual studies and and studies in facial expressions and emotions to interpret key scenes from the film.
