You may be interested in a guide to Dewey created by schoolchildren in the
USA called 'Do we really know Dewey?' at:

If children can work out how Dewey works and explain it clearly on a web
site they created then classification systems are not really a barrier to
children finding information in libraries. Its important that children
learn about subject indexing as a skill for later life, such as independent
study at college and university. A lot of children do ask staff at this
library for information rather than look for it themselves, but they need
to be taught at school how to do literature searces using dictionaries,
encyclopedias, libraries, book indexes, etc.
