MARKETING STRATEGY AND RESEARCH: their role in library service development
Stamford (near Peterborough)
Thursday 28 November 2002, 10.15am to 3.45pm
A cross-sectoral CPI Policy Seminar
Effective marketing is a recurrent issue for LISs of all kinds, but the
issue is not simply about doing better publicity and promotion: there is
the strategic issue of how to shape services to meet changing expectations
and how to open up access to new markets.
Aims:
- to probe the rationale and benefits of marketing (rather than the
practicalities of how to do it), and
- to understand the importance of management information for developing
effective marketing strategies.
Target audience: managers of LISs in all sectors, regional bodies, library
co-operatives and partnerships, and library school staff. Opportunities
are built in throughout the programme for discussion and debate.
CHAIR: Martin Molloy, Director of Libraries and Heritage, Derbyshire
SPEAKERS:
Jean Sykes, Director of Information Services, and Karen Bedwell,
Communications Manager, British Library of Political and Economic
Science, London School of Economics
John Sumsion, Consultant
Honor Wilson Fletcher, Sales and Marketing Director, Hodder
