does anyone know off the top of their heads when --and how-- the division of
Gaul into "provinces" (under an archbishop) came about ?
and how or why certain cities were chosen as provincial sees ?
was Sens a more important town than, say, Paris or Laon; or was the
geographical situation the primary consideration ?
just idle curiosity.
