medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I searched diligently on line for my favorite image of
Saint Jerome in the Belles Heures of the Duc de Berry:
arriving (with a full beard) for prayers (I think) in
a woman's dress which had been slipped on his body
while he slept by monks (?) seeking to discredit him.
But all I could find was his temptation by dancing
girls. These women are hardly babes and I wonder what
aspect of the image (absent the demon) indicates their
evil nature.
