medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hello,
I am organizing a session for next year's Kalamazoo (May 8-11 2003),
entitled _Magic and the Marvelous in Early Medieval Spain_. It
actually means to include broadly all the forms of the medieval
fantastic (including the miraculous) as represented in varied material
- saints lives, tales, treatises, miracles, etc. - with the goal of
elucidating, among others, issues like: what the notion of the
fantastic, magic and the marvelous in medieval Iberian culture was,
what was its philosophy and mechanism of operation, how it was
regarded and expressed through space, time, characters, plots and
genre, what purposes it was used for, etc. The period time-frame is
flexible. If any member of Medieval-Religion works in the area of
medieval Spain and has interest to submit a proposal on the topic, I
will be expecting your abstracts.
Please send an abstract by September 15, 2002 either by e-mail, fax
or snail mail. You can reach me at [log in to unmask] or at:
