Conference Aims and Objectives
This premier event in the North West Festival of Skills calendar has been organised by the University of Central Lancashire on behalf of the North West Universities Association, in association with North West Regional Assembly, North West Development Agency, and the Department of Health.
The purpose of the conference is not only to highlight the breadth of health expertise, and connectivity of the various aspects of health care in the North West, but also the health sector's significant contribution to regional economic development. Speakers will cover subjects ranging from regional health care challenges with an emphasis on social regeneration, to the training of health care professionals in light of recent NHS changes, and major developments in biotechnology in the North West.
Speakers and their subjects include:
Professor Sir Martin Harris, Chair of Universities UK Health Group (as keynote speaker) on North West universities' activity and achievements in relation to health care issues
Lord Hunt, Health Minister (tbc as overview speaker) on NHS changes and developments
Professor Maggie Pearson, Deputy Director of Human Resources, Department of Health, on the future of health care in the region
Councillor Azhar Ali, NWRA, on regional health care challenges
Dr Maire Smith, CEO, Manchester Innovation, on recent biotechnology developments in the North West
Bill Sang, Chief Executive of Lancashire and South Cumbria Workforce Development Confederation, on training and education developments within the NHS
