We are currently looking at the information we record on membership forms
and the computer record on our library management system (Dynix) when we
join library users, age in particular. We ask for the date of birth for
under 18's as Dynix requires it.
However, we have a borrower type for pensioners which is used only if
someone volunteers that information when joining. Consequently this is
rather hit and miss. In order to make our stats more meaningful we are
investigating ways of dealing with this without the need to insist on date
of birth for everyone.
How do other authorities record information on age, gender, ethnicity and
preferred language? Examples of your membership forms would also be very
useful if possible.
