medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (8. May) is the feast day of:
Gibrian (d. 509) According to legend, Gibrian was a hermit, who in the
fifth century came (together with five brothers and three sisters) from
Ireland to Brittany. All of the siblings were saints.
Iduberga (d. 652) Iduberga was the wife of Pepin the Elder (Frankish mayor
of the palace) and mother of Sts. Begga and Gertrude of Nivelles. In c.
640 Iduberga endowed the double monastery Nivelles in Belgium and made her
daughter Gertrude the first abbess (the first monks of the monastery came
from Ireland).
Wulfhilda of Wessobrunn (d. 1180) Wulfhilda was a daughter of Duke
Heinrich of Bavaria. She was married, and after her husband's death in c.
1150 entered the Benedictine nunnery of Wessobrunn. She was famed for her
good deeds, humility, and mediation to resolve conflicts.
