Action on Alcohol: the Role of Primary Care

A free one-day conference will be held on Friday, 28 June 2002 in Newcastle
upon Tyne at the International Centre for Life, which examines the role of
Primary Health Care in tackling risky alcohol consumption.
Key themes include:
* The burden of alcohol-related harm in the UK
* The evidence base for tackling alcohol consumption
* Is General Practice the right place for detection and management of excessive
alcohol consumption?
* Screening for alcohol problems and delivery of interventions: a role for
nurses?
Guest speakers include Professor Sir Liam Donaldson, Professor Griffith
Edwards, Professor Mike Kelly, Dr Stephen Rollnick, Professor Paul Wallace and
Professor Hazel Watson.
The day ends with a symposium on the WHO international initiaitive on
implementing early identification and brief intervention strategies in primary
health care.
