Apologies for cross posting.
As part of a larger research project I am currently trying to identify
members of the staff of English & Welsh public libraries who fell in World
War 1. I have taken as a starting point the list of the fallen published in
the Library Association Record in 1922. However this list is heavily
weighted towards London and the surrounding area, over 50% of the entries. I
suspect that this is a reflection of LA membership at this time, but I
cannot be sure. I suspect that there are other casualties which were not
reported to the LA.
I would be very grateful for any information on individuals who you know to
have been casualties, or other sources where this information might be
obtained. I am cross checking the LAR data with the Commonwealth War Graves
Commission data. Ideally I would like to know for each person, their name,
age, library authority, and their position in the library.
I know that some older library buildings contain war memorials which may
include library staff, similarly some authorities compiled memorial books.
Any information and suggestions would be most welcome
If you can help please reply to me off the list
Thank you
