medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Anna,
The following collection does not contain articles devoted to the mendicant
orders per se, but your friend may find some of the discussions useful:
Richard Trexler, ed., _Persons in Groups: Social Behavior as Identity
Formation in Medieval and Renaissance Europe._ SUNY Binghampton Press, 1985.
The other place your friend might look is Andre Vauchez, _Ordini Mendicanti
nella Societa Italiana XIII-XV secolo._ Milan, 1990. This is a collection
of Vauchez's article that, as far as I know, only exists as a collection in
Italian, though many of the individual pieces may originally have appeared
elsewhere in French.
Lastly, Brian Stock's _Implications of Literacy_, Princeton, 1983, which
puts forth the notion of "textual communities" as a basis for corporate
identity, may be useful.
Best of luck!
