medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
> On the subj. of Carolingian theatre;
>You might take a look at
Philippe Walter, "Der Baer und der Erzbischof: Masken und Mummenschanz bei Hinkmar von Reims und Adalbero von Laon" in D. Altenburg et al., eds., Feste und Feier im Mittelalter, Sigmaringen,1991.
J.D.A. Ogilvy, "Mimi, scurrae, histriones: Entertainers in the early Middle Ages," Speculum 38 (1963) 603-619.
I'm not sure but there may be something relevant in J. Verdon, "Fetes et divertissements en Occident durant le haut moyen age," Journal of Medieval History 5 (1979) 303-314.
I think that the mimi, histriones,ioculatores, etc. in Carolingian literature were street entertainers who were occasionally invited to perform at wedding and commemorative banquets.
