medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Today (27. February) is the feast day of:
Honorina (d. c. 300) The only thing known of Honrina is that she was one
of the first female martyrs of Gaul. There is evidence of her cult in
Normandy from very early.
Leander (d. 600) Leander was one of the great Church fathers of Spain. He
was born in c. 540 in Cartagena and came with his family to Seville. He
became a monk, and then in 578 archbishop of Seville. Leander cleared the
way and organized the council of Toledo of 589. Numerous important
writings of Leander are still extant.
Baldomar (d. c. 661) Balldomar was a citizen of Lyons (France). He was a
smith and locksmith, but then entered the monastery of St. Justus in Lyons.
Egino of Verona (d. 802) Egino was born in c. 735 to a Alamannian family
of high nobility. In c. 778 Charlemagne made him bishop of Verona. He
resigned his office in 799 and became a hermit on the island of Reichenau,
where he founded the basilica of Peter & Paul in Niederzell.
