Dear Friends,
As you know the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine has undergone a Review
which has now delivered its findings.
The Review acknowledged the importance of the Centre's role, especially
the work of its membership in promoting Evidence-Based Health Care
throughout the UK and beyond. The Review panel recommended that this role
should continue.
The following points outline how this is to happen:
1. Existing work in the form of workshops, journal, internet resources and
support for our colleagues will continue.
2. A local steering committee will be formed to manage the future
development of the Centre's programme of work.
3. As expected, the NHS R & D South East Regional Office cannot continue
to provide core funding for the Centre. However, sufficient resources
exist to employ Douglas Badenoch, Olive Goddard and Bridget Burchell until
April 2003.
4. As from 1st April 2002, we shall be based with John Geddes at the
Centre for Evidence-Based Mental Health in the Oxford University's
Department of Psychiatry.
5. This arrangement will allow us breathing space to develop a strategy
for funding beyond 2003.
6. We will welcome (and continue to offer) help, advice and support of our
Friends around the world in developing this strategy.
The Review emphasised that the important work carried out by all the
Centre staff, its Members and supporters, should continue and we look
forward to maintaining this collaboration for many years to come.
Best wishes,
Olive, Martin, Doug & Bridget
