Ken:
It has been established on the 'MapHist' internet discussion list (to cite
just one such) that replies should be normally sent to the whole list:
thereby avoiding unnecessary duplication (admittedly, everyone who responds
'off-list' would not, of course, be aware of this), in addition to which
other subscribers, even if just casually skimming through the replies, might
learn something incidentally (I nearly wrote 'unconsciously'...).
The term 'cartophile' is used and understood in Europe and in USA (I cannot
speak for Canada) at least for 'lover of maps' (consider the etymology); the
terms 'collector of maps' or 'map collector' include, by definition,
collectors(s) of charts and atlases (the latter normally being bound
collections of maps [surprise, surprise!]). Odd thing is, a map collector
(like a map curator) is normally also understood to have more than one item
in his or her temporary stewardship, so the term correctly (and
dogmatically) ought to be 'maps collector'.
