I am a student at Bournemouth University studying for a Master of Science
in forensic and biological anthropology. For the completion of the
masters, I am required to submit a dissertation. For my dissertation, I am
investigating the relationship between the intensity of bone fluorescence
and time since death. I have carried out some preliminary investigations
and I am now at the stage of carrying out the main bulk of the research. I
am emailing to find out if anyone has carried out any research on 'modern'
animal bone and still has access to the collection. I require samples of
sheep rib for which the backgrounds are known. This would have to include
time of death and the defleshing technique and would, ideally, include the
age, sex and details of the burial environment. I would require bones that
are younger than 200 years post-mortem, although older bones may also be
utilised. The technique I will be using is a destructive technique but the
samples I require would only need to be a few grams in size. I would be
extremely grateful if has such a collection and would be willing to part
with a small sample. I would also be grateful if someone could point me in
the right direction to a sample if they do not have one themselves. Thank
you.
Yours faithfully
