Just a few words in reference to social policy and that is to recommend a book
by Carol Bacchi, Women, Policy and Politics - The Construction of Policy
Problems, which focuses on the issue of how the problem definition is
constructed and they way in which the problem statement determines the outcome
or decision. This is something designers are quite familiar with. The idea as
Bacchi suggests that the construction of the question of what's the Problem? is
a very critical issue in social policy.
As designers, mightn't we have an obligation to participate in that
construction and an ability to open the door to others to participate as well?

"Justice is not limited, it is a universal quality. Its operation must be
carried out in all classes, from the highest to the lowest. Justice must be
sacred, and the rights of all the people must be considered. Desire for others
only that which you desire for yourselves. Then shall we rejoice in the Sun of
Justice."
