I am, of course, aware of the handful of exemplary critics currently working
in America (thanks for putting me on to slate-com and indiewire.com), but
they remain a handful out of, oh I don't know how many. If the situation in
America is anything like it is in Britain, they are too many critics
kowtowing to the distributors who court their publications. Consequently, the
standard of writing resembles the anodyne prose of the press pack. These
people should write press packs.
